Personal Grit
The Other Kind of Grit
The other king of grit is not just persistence. It takes Grit to be persistent. But having grit is strength, it having gears.
Daily List of Challenges
The idea is that in repetition you can build your strengths in certain areas. It has to do with a familiarity you are building in yourself. You can do these things with very little effort or a lot, whatever you feel comfortable with. The case may be that you are only doing them pretend – like the runner one where you run everyday. You can literally make that running ten steps. Do it as if you were just pretending, acting it out. It's getting the brain to be in the habit that you are a runner. This is true because you run everyday. True or True.
Physically Playing the Part
Getting into the runners stance , preparing to “walk differently” it all adds up to building the minds understanding about runner's mindset. It all counts. And the fact that it is done daily makes it habitual and it begins to become who you are and what you can do.
So pick ten noble things that you would like to take on as characteristics of yourself.
- Strength
- runners endurance
- speed at anything
- social familiarity with people
- ability to draw
- finding things out
- Creativity
- learning ability
- solving a problem
- attitude
Whatever the noble qualities of people are. And find a little rehearsal routine and time to perform these, every day, every damn day.
Mental
- word problem
- spatial questions
- drawing a sketch
- read a scientific explanation
- learn a word you don't know
- remember a list of things
- remember steps to a a process
- describe directions to a place(spatial acuity)
- solve a mystery or just give a hypothesis of maybe
Meditation is probably a nice icing on this cake.
